They are seeking a Product Design PhD Intern to work on design, engineering, and validation activities for hardware product lines, helping to create the next generation of hardware devices and improve user experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Design, engineering and validation activities for all hardware product lines
- Help to create the next generation of the world's finest hardware devices
- Conceive, design, and bring into production products that will re-define user experience
- Work closely with many different multi-functional teams, including Industrial Design, Packaging, Safety, Hardware Engineering, EMC, Reliability and Marketing
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field of study
- At the end of the internship, you must return to school to continue your education or the internship must be the last requirement for you to graduate
- Prior research publications, internship experience, relevant project experience, teaching assistance experience, and/or relevant work experience
- Product design experience (preferably consumer electronics)
- Experience working with component modules (LCD assemblies, batteries, camera modules, etc.) and their interconnect (FPC design and ACF bonding)
- Strong knowledge of materials science fundamentals for plastic, adhesive, metal, glass, ceramic, composite, and coating materials
- Ability to use statistical tools and techniques
- Expertise in Finite element analysis theory and general mechanical engineering analysis
- Ability in plastic, metal, composite, and glass/ceramic part design 3-D CAD skills
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
- Handheld, portable and/or hardware experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the integration of wireless antenna (GSM, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures
- Understanding of the design of audio subsystems (microphone, speaker, receiver)
- Proficiency in Unigraphics or Pro-engineer
- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to work on multiple requests/tests at the same time
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
