About this role
Role Overview
Administering, monitoring, and supporting enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments across production and non‑production systems.
Focuses on operational stability, performance, security, and availability of databases supporting business‑critical applications.
Works independently on standard DBA activities, participates in production incidents and change management.
Collaborates closely with application, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure database services meet availability, compliance, and performance expectations.
Provides 24×7 on‑call production support as part of a rotating DBA schedule.
Troubleshoots and resolves database issues including performance degradation, blocking, deadlocks, connectivity issues, and failed jobs.
Maintains and monitors standard SQL maintenance jobs (integrity checks, index maintenance, statistics updates).
Manages database access using role‑based access control and Active Directory groups.
Enforces least‑privilege access and reviews elevated permissions.
Supports security audits, vulnerability remediation, and asset compliance requirements.
Assists in implementing & password rotation processes.
Monitors database health using enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., SCOM, SolarWinds DPA).
Analyzes space issues, Data & Log file full issues, tempdb usage, and resource consumption.
Proactively identifies and remediates performance bottlenecks.
Supports SQL Server patching activities under approved maintenance windows.
Performs controlled changes to meet operational and security requirements.
Maintains accurate documentation for configurations, procedures, and incidents.
Escalates complex issues appropriately and supports root cause analysis efforts.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems or a related discipline.
2–5 years of experience in database administration or production support roles
Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) administration.
Hands-on knowledge of Always on AGs, backups, restores, SQL replication, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
Experience with production support, patching cycles, CRQ-driven changes, and on-call rotations.
Experience with SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, and monitoring tools
Familiarity with monitoring tools, SSMS, and SQL alerting frameworks.
